Understanding Preventative Maintenance Inspection Reports

The Understanding PMI Reports is aimed at the following:

• Inspection Techs responsible for Inspections (correctly filling them out)
• Engineering Managers / Supervisors (signing off as fit to return to service)
• Transport Managers (internally auditing & final checking a copy for the Vehicle File)

Bring along copies of completed inspection reports to refer to their physical paperwork and highlight issues or omissions.

Course Overview

The course covers:

• The legal requirement for PMI to be completed
• What a VI report MUST have to meet the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness
• Where and how deficiencies can be identified
• How they should be categorised (both on PMI in accordance with the relevant VI Manual PSV / HGV and Categorisation of Defects manual)
• What to Look for on 3rd Party providers Reports (reviewing VI reports with examples on screen and copies of completed reports to use actual fleet data)
• What other Documents should be included on a PMI
• VI report archive requirements
• What DVSA / Auditors look for (trends)
