Overview

irtec Large Commercial Vehicle Service Maintenance Technician – Familiarisation

Designed to help prepare candidates wishing to achieve irtec Accreditation as a Large Commercial Vehicle Service Maintenance Technician, this familiarisation course will cover key areas in which candidates will need to demonstrate competency and knowledge to achieve accreditation.

This is an assessment where technicians must pass a Practical Assessment and an Under Pinning knowledge (theory) test.

First the technician must pass the Under Pinning knowledge test, which consists of 30 questions.

Once the technician has passed the Under Pinning knowledge test, they then have 12 months in which to successfully complete the Practical Assessments.

Practical Assessments in the LCV Service Maintenance licence covers:

  • Powertrain systems
  • Chassis systems
  • Braking systems
  • Computer based test equipment
  • Vehicle electrics

Course Prerequisites

The candidate will be able to demonstrate the correct inspection methods, and use the appropriate equipment and information when making judgments on the serviceability of vehicles systems and components.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at technicians who have at least 2 years industrial experience or a Level 2 S/NVQ (or equivalent qualification) plus at least one year’s experience in a relevant industrial environment.

Course Certification

IMI irtec Certificated

Technicians who successfully pass irtec assessments are awarded an irtec licence. This certifies the individual rather than the employer and is based on current competence. Licenses expire after five years.
