IMI Introduction to Car Tyre Fitting

The Introduction to Car Tyre Fitting course is aimed at those who wish to embark on a tyre fitting career with little or no previous experience. There is no entry requirement although previous use working with hand tools is an advantage.

The candidates will be assessed on an ongoing basis, and successful candidates will receive an IMI Professional Development Certificate in Car Tyre Fitting, which gives them the knowledge to go and gain practical work experience.

• Half day classroom-based theory session
• Two days workshop practice session

Theoretical
• Health & Safety
• Light Vehicle Tyre construction identification
• Light Vehicle Tyre sidewall markings (including tyre labelling)
• Construction & Use regulations
• Limits of wear and serviceability
• Tyre repairs conforming to BSAU159g

Practical
• Tyre inspection and fault reporting
• Safe vehicle jacking and use of two and four post ramp
• Safe removal and replacement of road wheels
• Safe wheel balancing
• Safe tyre removal and replacement, starting with steel wheels
• Safe tubeless tyre repair
