Overview
IMI Accreditation Electric Vehicle Technician (ATA)
Course Summary
The IMI Accreditation Electric Vehicle route is intended for technicians whose job role involves the inspection maintenance and repair of light vehicles, as well as those involved in accident repair bodyshops (i.e. MET, Panel, Paint, VDA).
It provides the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle’s Electric/Hybrid system, while carrying out repairs or maintenance.
On completing this course, technicians will have gained both knowledge of high voltage Electric/Hybrid and an understanding of their dangers.
This qualification will be presented and held as a continual professional development route – valid for 3 years.
At the end of the course you will be assessed on the following practical assessments and you will complete an online multiple choice test.
• Safe Working Practices – AOM081
• High Voltage Battery Replacement – AOM082
• High Voltage Component Replacement – AOM083
Course Prerequisites
Technicians must be able to work unsupervised, ideally they should be in full-time employment with at least 2 years experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to service, maintain and repair vehicles fitted with high voltage batteries/components such as Hybrid or Electric vehicles.

This is a two-day course and assessment

• Safety precautions to be taken before carrying out any repair procedures on Electric/Hybrid vehicles

• The possibility of the hybrid system affecting repairs on other vehicle systems
• The procedures require to make safe the Electric/Hybrid system before carrying our repair activities
• The precautions taken prior to removing and placing high voltage components, including correct PPE and tooling
• How to connect an additional 12-volt power source to an Electric/Hybrid vehicle and also a high voltage power supply.
Who Should Attend?
Technicians, with a minimum of 2 years experience, who wish to gain a nationally-recognised accreditation.
