Essential Diesel Emission System Knowledge

If you want to understand how modern diesel emission systems work including AdBlue this course is the place to start.

This course has been designed to give you the understanding & confidence to diagnose and test all the different exhaust after-treatment systems found on today’s vehicles.

Having a good understanding & confidence in this field is very important for any technician in today’s workshop due to the high volume of vehicles currently experiencing issues with these systems.

Course Content

• A brief history of emission legislation
• What different systems there are on today’s vehicles
• How the different systems work
• How to test the various sensors & actuators found within these systems

There is ample practical work within this course to reinforce the classroom learning, including expert help from experienced technicians.

Prerequisites

It would be favourable to have undertaken the standard diesel engine management course and the diesel common rail course (plus any prerequisites for those courses) before attending this one. This would allow the technician to maximise their learning from this event.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion you will be able to:

• Have a better understanding of diesel emission control systems
• Identify emission control components
• Test emission control sensors & actuators
• Understand some of the legislation behind the current regulations

• Test diesel emission systems using a scan tool
• Be aware of the need to up-date the vehicles software with regards to emission faults

You will know how to approach a diesel emission fault with more confidence and carry out the correct tests, using the correct equipment in the correct order, to provide a fix in the shortest timeframe.
