Essential CAN Bus & Vehicle Network Knowledge

If you want to understand how modern vehicle network systems including CAN Bus work this course is the place to start.

This course has been designed to give you the understanding & confidence to diagnose and test all the different network systems found on today’s vehicles.

Having a good understanding & confidence in this field is very important for any technician in today’s workshop due to the high volume of networks found on today’s vehicles.

Course Content

• A brief history of network development
• What the different networks are called including how they are different
• How to identify the different networks
• How to test the various networks found on today’s vehicles

There is ample practical work within this course to reinforce the classroom learning, including expert help from experienced technicians.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this training event however having attended the Essential Electrical Knowledge course plus the Oscilloscope course would be an advantage.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion you will be able to:

• Have a better understanding of vehicle networks
• Understand which equipment to use when testing a network
• Test different networks in the correct manner
• Identify common faults within vehicle networks
• Understand the term “missing message” as a DTC within an ECU
• View a vehicle network (CAN) on a scope and understand the waveform

You will know how to approach a vehicle network fault with more confidence and carry out the correct tests, using the correct equipment in the correct order, to provide a fix in the shortest timeframe.
